Shrine of St. Anthony Courtyard
A little slice of Europe in rural Howard County, the courtyard at the Shrine of St. Anthony off of Homewood Road in Ellicott City was designed to evoke echoes of a similar structure in Assisi, Italy.
Built in 1930 and 1931 from Beaver Dam marble quarried in Cockeysville, the Shrine of St. Anthony houses a relic of the 12th century saint of the same name. The relic is said to be dried skin or tissue, and was obtained when St. Anthony's tomb was opened in advance of his 800th birthday, in 1995.
