Lakefront Movies
Moviegoers watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2 under the stars at the Lakefront in Columbia. Watching open-air movies in Town Center has been a tradition since the 1960's.
The Columbia Association sponsors the free series, which features family-friendly films and is open to all. Residents arrive early to get a good seat, spread their blankets and bring a picnic dinner.
For nearly 50 years the movies have been hosted by film buff Tom Brzezinski, seen above introducing Harry Potter. Brzezinski started out with a film projector and a 4x8' sheet of plywood for a screen. The movies are now shown via digital projector on a large vinyl screen.
Films start as soon as it is dark enough, usually about 9pm.
